Ribbon Chick
Lisa Burton is a certified occupational therapy assistant and former licensed cosmetologist who began her breast cancer awareness crusade after her mother Carol’s rediagnosis in 2002. Since Carol’s untimely passing in 2003, Lisa has reached out to support and inspire other daughters and sons of breast cancer victims and survivors. Ribbon Chick is a reflection of this passion for the cause.
Carol was a five-year breast cancer survivor when her disease returned. During her entire 10-month battle, Carol wore a pink breast cancer awareness bracelet created by Lisa. It was her mother’s love of that bracelet that motivated Lisa to open a breast cancer awareness product store and later write a love letter to her mother titled "Around My Mother’s Table", a touching cookbook with entries from 39 daughters and sons, each with a recipe and inspiring memory of their mothers.
Today, Lisa is active in many breast cancer awareness volunteer efforts, including participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and co-chairing the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Survivors Luncheon held annually in Kansas City. She also walked 60 miles in the Breast Cancer 3 Day held in San Diego, California.
Her book "Around My Mother’s Table" is a best-seller and can be purchased here at Ribbon Chick for $16.95 and at all major bookstores, including www.amazon.com, www.barnesandnoble.com, Ingram Books, and Leathers Publishing. Ribbon Chick Awareness Apparel and other products are also available on the Ribbon Chick Web site.
Lisa continues to live on a Kansas farm with her husband and their family of five children, three dogs and three cats. Contact Lisa at lisa@ribbonchick.com.
